Sofia Kudryakova, QPRO Development Director, Lighting Designer:
“One of the main tasks of the Media Center lighting design project was to create a comfortable lighting environment for occupants, as well as impressive visual effects.
The primary focus is on a unique art piece made of “threads” of varying heights covering the lobby ceiling. To bring the structure to life, a special decorative effect—streaming light—was used. Due to the ceiling art piece’s unique nature, where each polycarbonate rod is fixed in place, the placement of the lighting fixtures had to take into account the placement of each structural element. The project utilizes concealed light sources positioned between the rods. The fixtures are installed in the ceiling, concealed by the “threads” attached to it. The lighting fixtures themselves are almost invisible behind the volumetric structure, the observer sees only the light effect on the elements.
To create the desired effect of dynamic aurora borealis, the project utilizes LED lighting fixtures with a wide beam distribution and tunable white + RGB technology, along with a control system. This means the fixtures can not only change shades of white from warm to cool (tunable white) and be dimmed, but also emit colored light (RGB). To ensure the aurora borealis effect is realistic and realistic, special lighting scenarios were developed that simulate the interplay of color (color transitions from green to violet) and light. Controlled by DALI protocol, which allows flexible adjustment for each light fixture and creates the desired effect in all public spaces at once.
Another unusual visual effect is achieved through the interaction of the material of the structure’s transparent threads and light. Light is refracted by the polycarbonate and fills each rod of the structure. Additionally, unusual light and shadow patterns reminiscent of star rays can be seen on the floor.
Thanks to the symbiosis of shape, materials, colors, light and modern technology, it was possible to create a mesmerizing effect of the northern lights.”
