A new Business Center Action Development lockated in Moscow at Presnya district was designed by the UNK Project architectural bureau. The building has the shape of a triangular prism with rounded corners, and its distinctive feature is a mesh shell, which makes the facade of the building embossed and gives it an expressive rhythm.

The facade lighting project was developed by Sofia Kudryakova the lighting designer of the QPRO team.

For many years developers underestimated Presnya  district, developing other territories of the Central Administrative District, but now the city is actively developing industrial territories. The BC Action Development appeared next to the Third Transportnoe Koltzio and the Begovaya undegraund station interchange – it is surrounded by the Krasnaya Presnya electric depot, a branch of Mosgortrans and low-rise residential buildings. The new building has become a recognizable business symbol of the area.

Working at the facade lighting design project QPRO team analyzed the surrounding area: assessed the lighting environment and location features, and then identified the key buildings and features of their architectural and artistic lighting.

To validate the lighting effects in real-world conditions, the QPRO team tried the lighting equipment on several mockups.

To accentuate the characteristic skin of Action Development at evening and night were used Signify and iLED led projectors with narrow optics and a color temperature 3,000 K.

The lighting equipment is in the nodes of the metal shell and shines from top to bottom and from bottom to top. Luminaires narrow beams clearly define each section of the wire mesh. Additionally, they were equipped with protective visors, which help to avoid side exposure, and help to reduce light pollution. The luminaries were painted in the color of the façade, which made them almost invisible during the daytime.

Making holes for lighting fixtures directly on site would lead to errors and displacements – and therefore to a violation of the light pattern and the overall visual effect. Together with the architects and the customer, QPRO team developed a technical solution that made it easier to install projectors on site and ensure the correct positioning of the lighting fixtures on the mesh shell: holes were made in the metal structures during production. After installing the luminaires, QPRO team made recommendations for the final alignment of the lighting equipment.

In the evening, when the architectural lighting of the building is turned on, the openwork frame is well read even against the background of the glazed facade, through which light from the interiors penetrates.

Thanks to the lighting solution, the building at night looks like a holistic form from the basement to the highest point. The narrow optics and clear direction of the lighting fixtures help to minimize the effect of light pollution and do not distract pedestrians and people in the building. The harmonious light appearance of the building helps it become a landmark in the developing central district of Moscow.
