Lighting designer of the engineering company QPRO Julia Lyubakova shared her opinion on current trends in lighting design in hospitality and identified the main 5 trends.

The hospitality (HoReCa) is transforming, trying to meet modern human needs and even exceed their expectations. Changes concern both the organization of space, the search for new forms, images, materials in design and architecture, as well as the use of technology and innovation. Also, much attention is paid to the formation of the atmosphere and emotional perception of the environment.

One of the key issues that designers have faced over the past 3-4 years is creating a space that is both inviting and safe for guests. Undoubtedly, the situation that happened during the covid-19 pandemic will remind itself for a long time, and will be reflected in the decisions of architects and designers. On the other hand, the world does not stand still and is moving into the future, which is becoming more and more “digital” every year. Smart solutions and automation systems help businesses solve important problems: improve the quality of service, speed up work processes, effectively distribute resources (human and energy), ensure safety, create flexible and most comfortable conditions for people.

When it comes to lighting design, the HoReCa industry is moving away from the principle of form over substance. Of course, original decorative lighting will always remain a special, admirable design element, but quality lighting in hospitality is primarily about what is not seen. Light determines the perception of space and objects, helps to form a memorable image of a place to which you want to return again and again. It is important to maintain the integrity of the proposed solutions, which consider design, health, technology and energy efficiency.

 

In HoReCa the following global trends are currently observed, which, in my opinion, will be relevant in the next 5-10 years:
1 – Multifunctional lighting and control systems.
2 – Expansion of the functional and semantic load.
3 – Healthy spaces.
4 – Personalization.
5 – Sustainable development and care for nature.
