There is more and more light every year in big cities: streets and highways, squares and park areas, cultural and commercial objects are illuminated. Such a large amount of light, both day and night, can affect a person’s health and his emotional state. In addition, due to light pollution in cities, the state of flora and fauna is changing.
It is possible to form the correct and comfortable light environment if you treat lighting design consciously. Based on the knowledge and experience, the specialists of the QPRO engineering company have developed their own approach to lighting design, which considers the functional tasks and features of objects, pays attention to the visual perception and well-being of a person, as well as the state of the environment. Lighting ideology “Designing by the laws of nature” is based on natural light as the most important factor in the natural integrity of a person, which is a key tool for shaping the environment, affecting well-being, activity and productivity.

The IDEOLOGY consists of the following points:

1 – Rational light
2 – Technology as a result of evolution
3 – Balanced light
4 – Shaping light
5 – Light as a language of communication
6 – Eco-friendly light

We create the most comfortable, safe and aesthetically attractive lighting projects, paying attention to each of these six sections.
Let’s talk about each of them in more detail:

Rational light – performs a functional task, provides visual orientation and navigation.
An excess of light interferes with a person. One of the main tasks of artificial lighting is to ensure comfortable functioning during darkness.
There is an understanding of why a particular solution is chosen at the base of each project. Light primarily ensures the fulfillment of visual tasks, helps to navigate in space.

Example: Interior lighting for project MATREX in Skolkovo made it possible to use it also as an architectural one. During the day, the building has the shape of a truncated pyramid, inside which is an atrium space in the form of a matryoshka doll. At night the “Matryoshka Body” comes to life and appears through the glass facade. The uniformity of the glow is achieved due to correctly selected optics and the location of the fixtures. This solution allows you to make the light multifunctional and rational in use.

Technologies as a result of evolution – a comfortable environment for work and leisure, safety, energy efficiency, flexibility and adaptability of lighting solutions.
Modern technologies allow not only save energy, but also design adaptive spaces, create flexible lighting conditions, repeating the natural cycle, create a human-friendly environment that promotes well-being and emotional comfort.

Example: In lighting design project for AVITO office, lighting control system made it possible for employees located in open space to control any lamp in this area from mobile gadgets, laptops, and desktop computers. This solution allows employees not to adapt to the surrounding light environment, but to change it according to their own needs.
There are luminaries with a color temperature of 4000K were used for workplaces. In recreation areas you can find luminaries with color temperature 3000K – this solution visually delimits the functionality of the space, allows employees to change activities quickly and easily.

Balanced light – light as an integral part of space and architecture, light as a component of an intuitive harmony given by nature, visual comfort, contrasts, combinations, shades oriented to the reflexes of perception.
Combinations of color and light are always harmonious in nature. While developing a light environment, it is also necessary to strive for maximum naturalness. We see space as light represents it. It is a tool that forms the perception, harmony and integrity of space.

Example: As a result of reconstruction, the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre was turned into a modern theater venue. Light has become one of the key elements for shaping the image of the new space. He showed the historical layers of the building and emphasized the functional versatility of the zones created there.
The expressive structure of the coffered ceiling of the main foyer is duplicated by a minimalist grid of LED profiles. Due to the system of tracks located along the walls and under the ceiling of the main hall, the maximum variability of lighting scenarios is provided. Spot lighting of the foyer blurs the boundary between the stage and the audience area, creating a special “pre-theater” feeling.

Shaping light – light as a building material and a means for shape modeling, the manifestation of the most beneficial textures, depth and volume, the formation of the character of space.
Thanks to light, the human eye determines shapes, volumes, textures. Therefore, artificial lighting is a tool that transmits information about objects, their characteristics, proportions, details. With the help of light and shadow, without even seeing the clear boundaries of an object, one can understand the depth of perspective, volume, and shape.

Example: When choosing lighting fixtures for the Fairmont Vesper Residences project, the materials, relief, and color scheme of the facades were taken into account. It was important to emphasize the complex plasticity of the facade with the help of subtle brightness contrasts. Linear luminaries were used to illuminate the pilasters; on the sides of the pilasters, the facade also has small protruding elements illuminated by spotlights. A series of mockups was carried out to obtain three harmonious gradations of brightness on the facade, clarifying the brightness of the facade plane, protruding elements and pilasters. The optimal power of the luminaires was chosen for stylobate, taking into account the presence of a high level of illumination of this zone.
With the help of a well-thought-out lighting solution, it was possible to reveal important details of the architecture, as well as to convey the character of the building and its high status.

Light as a language of communication – evoking emotions, showing feelings, carrying a message and information, forming an identity.
Light is a way to attract attention, highlight an object among many similar ones, increase its recognition and attractiveness. Light helps inform the viewer about the properties of an object. With the help of light accents are placed. Light creates a mood, evokes strong and sincere emotions that can be controlled.

Example: The idea of the natural beauty of the southern region, stated in the interior design of Platov Airport, continued in the PRIORITY PASS business lounge with the Horizon concept.
Light frames the space built on emotional, tactile and associative techniques. The image of the “horizon” is made by a graphic light line imitating the steppe horizon at dawn. Diffuse light distribution in the business lounge enhances the effect of a foggy dawn, so characteristic of the Don and the steppe that spreads around it. All these techniques together made it possible not only to create a comfortable light environment, but also to make the space unique, referring visitors to the nature of the region in which it is located.

Eco-friendly light – respect for the environment, economical use of daylight, ensuring the integrity of the ecosystem, artificial light as a new habitat.
Nature should be treated as tactfully and carefully as possible, considering its laws and the relationship of each implemented solution. Having become a new habitat for a person, artificial lighting should strive for naturalness and organicity.

Example: The openwork mesh shell of the facades of the business center Zemelny creates the architectural appearance of the building. It is used in progressive architecture of the 21st century and refers to the example of Soviet constructivism, the tower of engineer Shukhov. This structure was enhanced with the help of light. For this project were used LED floodlights with narrow optics, placed at the crossroads of a metal structure. Rays of light are directed from top to bottom and from bottom to top, outlining the shell. Narrow optics helps to avoid glare on the side surfaces, emphasizing each section of the structure.
Thanks to narrow beams, protective accessories and precise aiming of luminaries, the effect of light pollution is minimized. Light does not interfere with pedestrians and people in the building.
Business Center Zemelny is the first in the world with a vertical garden at the 55th parallel of the northern latitude. It combines modern technical solutions and eco-orientation.

Conclusion:
We believe that lighting design requires conscious design to reach a new level of design solutions. Light is an integral part of everything that surrounds us. And this means that every decision can change the current situation in a global sense, and I would like to move for the better, following the laws of evolution.
