With the development of technologies and new opportunities, the rhythm of life is getting faster: the flow of incoming information is increasing, communications are ongoing, work tasks simultaneously arise in different systems and instant messengers, we are surrounded by gadgets and various devices. A person spins all day, imagining how he returns home and finally relax and interrupt this race for a while.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, it became clear how important it is to have comfortable conditions at home, where you can relax and, if necessary, work. Comfort, safety, and individual functional and aesthetic preferences are the key parameters that matter for residential interiors.

An important component of any space is light – natural in the daytime, artificial during darkness. Light not only creates a mood and forms a visual image, but also affects health and psycho-emotional state. Since we spend most of our time at work. We find ourselves at home already closer to the onset of darkness, which means that we spend our personal time under artificial lighting. It is possible to create the right and comfortable lighting environment if you treat lighting design consciously, involving specialists.

Based on the knowledge and experience, the specialists of the QPRO engineering company have developed their own approach to lighting design, which considers the functional tasks and features of objects, pays attention to the visual perception and well-being of a person, as well as the state of the environment. The developed design ideology “Lighting design by the laws of nature” is based on natural light as the most important factor in the natural integrity of a person, a key tool for shaping the environment that affects well-being, activity, and productivity.

The IDEOLOGY consists of the following points:

1 – Rational light
2 – Technology as a result of evolution
3 – Balanced light
4 – Shaping light
5 – Light as a language of communication
6 – Eco-friendly light

Paying attention to each of these six points, you can create the most comfortable, safe and aesthetically attractive projects.
Let’s talk about each point in detail:

1 – Rational light – performs a functional task, provides visual orientation and navigation.
An excess of light interferes with a person. One of the main tasks of artificial lighting is to ensure comfortable functioning during darkness.
At the heart of each project is an understanding of why a particular solution is chosen. Light primarily ensures the fulfillment of visual tasks, helps to navigate in space.

Example: In private apartments in Drovyany Lane the accents were placed, was set a rhythm, and movement routes were highlighted with the help of lighting. Light here performs its direct function, it provides the necessary levels of illumination, highlights important functional areas, acts as a kind of navigation, and creates a cozy home environment. Lighting supports the color scheme of the design solution, seamlessly integrating into the architecture, sometimes acting as additional design elements.
Residents can easily create the right atmosphere and comfortable lighting environment for themselves with the help of dimmers, changing the intensity of lighting and setting the desired lighting conditions.

2 – Technologies as a result of evolution – a comfortable environment for work and leisure, safety, energy efficiency, flexibility and adaptability of lighting solutions.
Modern technologies allow not only save energy, but also design adaptive spaces, create flexible lighting conditions, repeat the natural cycle, create a human-friendly environment that promotes well-being and emotional comfort.

Example: It was necessary to create professional high-quality museum lighting for exhibiting art objects for a private gallery project in the Moscow region. The task was implemented with the help of lighting equipment with interchangeable lenses. If the exposure changes, then these lenses can be easily replaced and create different lighting conditions. Therefore, the owners can safely move the paintings or replace them with others, including other sizes – interchangeable lenses can help in any situation and present art objects in the best light.
The interior also uses reflected light, which creates the minimum level of general illumination necessary for a comfortable stay in the gallery space. There are also lighting fixtures with asymmetric light distribution that evenly flood the pavilion wall, creating conditions for exhibiting paintings of various sizes without distracting from the perception of architecture.

3 – Balanced light – light as an integral part of space and architecture, light as a component of an intuitive harmony given by nature, visual comfort, contrasts, combinations, shades oriented to the reflexes of perception.
Combinations of color and light are always harmonious in nature. While developing a light environment, it is also necessary to strive for maximum naturalness. Man sees space as light represents it. It is a tool that forms the perception of harmony and integrity of space.

Example: Lighting in the apartment in Veskovsky Pereulok was introduced into the interior with graphic techniques that complement the overall solution in geometry and decoration, emphasizing the architecture of the space. Linear systems, rectangles of ceiling and wall fixtures, a line of pendant lamps organize the space of the ceiling and walls.
Lighting effects work on the perception of space along with the shape of devices. The luminaires help to create the necessary light contrasts in the living space, as well as organize a balanced light environment without harsh shadows and light spots. Backlighting helps to enhance the contrast of black and white graphics. The combination of fixtures with different optics allows you to create a uniform illumination with lighting fixtures with a wide light distribution and set the rhythm with light accents.
Residents can easily customize lighting scenarios to suit their needs – rotary lamps are responsible for this. You can also turn on and off different light scenarios if you use groups of light.

4 – Shaping light – light as a building material and a means for shape modeling, the manifestation of the most beneficial textures, depth and volume, the formation of the character of space.
The human determines shapes, volumes and textures thanks to the light. With the help of light and shadows, without even seeing the clear boundaries of an object, you can evaluate the perspective, volume, and shape.

Example: The main feature of a country house in the Gorki-2 cottage settlement is an open timber, which creates a feeling of warmth and comfort, as well as associations with traditional Russian flavor. The rounded shape of the timber is an interior decoration and plays a decorative role, so it was important to emphasize it with lighting when it’s dark.
Modern black linear lighting systems act here as geometric lines, outlining the architectural forms of the interior and contrasting with the white ceiling. Track spotlights made it possible to reveal the texture and color of the natural timber material.
The country house is filled with art objects placed on the walls, which are effectively emphasized by the light of rotary projectors. In their directional beams, the entire interior looks like an exhibit, and its details look like jewels in a box.
The high color rendering index and the warm color of the light emphasize the finishing materials, which are dominated by noble wood, conveying the unique character of the space, revealing its volume and unique features.

5 – Light as a language of communication – evoking emotions, showing feelings, carrying a message and information, forming an identity.
Light is a way to attract attention, highlight an object among many similar ones, increase its recognition and attractiveness. Light helps inform the viewer about the properties of an object. It’s possible to set accents with the help of light. Light creates mood and influences emotions.

Example: In a private apartment on Plyushchikha lighting helps to complement the design solution and create a comfortable lighting environment. Each area of the apartment is provided with functional lighting, realized with the help of technical fixtures, almost invisible on the ceiling surface. They provide the necessary level of illumination. Spectacular accents in the interior are decorative lamps – they are presented in original forms, attracting attention, and participating in the zoning of space.
All technical light in the apartment from spotlights to LED strips is controlled by the DALI system. Lighting is controlled using keyboard dimmers, which also can control equipment with tunable white technology (the ability to turn on warm and cold shades, as well as transitions from one to another). Decorative lamps are also dimmable, and some have the function of dimming the light by touch. Thanks to these technical solutions, communication between man and space takes place through technology. They are in a bunch and understand each other perfectly.
The interior has a thoughtful functionality for creating different lighting scenarios, which can be changed depending on the lighting conditions, tasks, and situations.

6 – Eco-friendly light – respect for the environment, economical use of daylight, ensuring the integrity of the ecosystem, artificial light as a new habitat.
Nature should be treated as tactfully and carefully as possible, considering its laws and the relationship of each implemented solution. Artificial lighting should strive for naturalness and organicity, cause it’s become a part of a new habitat for a person.

Example: The lighting solution for the landscape of a country residence in Nizhny Novgorod is discreet, without excessive light. The territory is accentuated, only where it is necessary and in the amount that is sufficient for orientation. Lighting solution affecting a small area of steps, the lower part of large trees and path borders. Lighting helps to navigate and see space in the dark, leaving a place for non-verbal communication between man and nature. Landscape luminaries with warm white light ensure safe movement at night, leaving the rest of the territory at dusk. Thanks to the “low” and dim warm light, residents can enjoy the surrounding vegetation, admire the view of the water surface, and listen to the sounds of nature.

Conclusion:
Conscious lighting design helps to create optimal conditions for people and the environment. Modern technologies make our life more convenient and better. But do not forget that their “smart” use is necessary, which means lighting must be controllable. Its use must be justified and thought out.
It is possible to create a comfortable and harmonious light environment if nature is considered as a standard. That is why QPRO adheres to the lighting design ideology “Lighting design by the laws of nature” in its work.
