Lighting is unique in any residential spaces. This is due to the fact that each person’s idea of beauty, comfort, functionality and convenience is different. People have different needs and perceptions of light, so the optimum light conditions for each person are different.

Interiors are perceived differently at different times of day despite the fact that architecture interacts with light both during the day (natural light) and in the evening (artificial light). Light allows us to distinguish shapes and materials, shades, and colors, and to perceive architecture and design details. Lighting is used to create comfortable, safe, attractive, and flexible spaces for living.
For the lighting environment to meet the demands of modern man, the design of lighting solutions must take into account a number of specific criteria. Let’s consider each of them in detail.

1 – FUNCTIONAL TASKS

Lighting should provide the necessary conditions for performing various functions during the hours of darkness, avoiding excessive light that can cause fatigue and discomfort. It is important to use lighting only where it is really needed and in the appropriate amount.
In addition, light plays an important role in safety, both indoors and outdoors – moving around in the evening in the dark or in bright, glaring lights can be just as dangerous as handling a knife in the kitchen in semi-darkness or with glare. A person should be equally comfortable in the house, whether resting, working or moving around.

2 – LIGHT SCENARIOS

Nature never stands still; changes are constantly happening around us. Light conditions change throughout the day. Dynamics is a natural process that helps us to orient, evaluate, react, feel emotions. It is the same in artificial lighting – a monotonous image of space can quickly become boring. So, there are light scenarios that solve this problem.
To create a comfortable individual environment in apartments or country residences helps the “smart home” system, allowing you to easily switch between pre-programmed scenarios. For example, you can use scenarios for hosting guests, a party, watching movies or a romantic evening. You can also completely turn off when the homeowner is away. However, you should not limit yourself to common solutions – the number and variety of scenarios depend only on the imagination or needs of users.

3 – TECHNICAL FEATURES

Each lighting solution should be designed considering all technical features of lighting devices: it is necessary to correctly determine the power, color temperature, light angles, pulsation coefficient, the need to use RGB / RGBW / TUNABLE WHITE technologies, color rendering index and the use of special lighting effects.
It is also necessary to correctly calculate the number, placement of lighting devices, mounting elements, accessories, connection, and installation features.
It is necessary to remember that any equipment must be certified, because it is directly related to safety and health.

4 – REFLECTION OF INDIVIDUALITY

Lighting solutions should not only correspond to the design solution, but also to the lifestyle and character of the individual and his or her family members. With the help of modern technology, the most comfortable conditions are created for everyone. It is possible to make the house “smarter” with the help of sensors, sensors, dimmers. In the modern world of mobile gadgets, it is convenient to control the environment through applications, creating optimal conditions without actually getting off the couch. Technologies help to transform living spaces according to human desires and needs – to regulate light intensity, color shade, to switch between zones and modes.
It can be controlled through mobile applications, panels and displays, or even by voice. You can choose the most convenient option for changing the space – using automatic mode or manual control.

5 – HUMAN IMPACT

Light has a direct effect on humans. Almost all the work of the human body is subject to circadian rhythms – cyclical fluctuations in the intensity of various biological processes associated with the change of day and night. The impact of light (intensity, spectrum of waves, time of exposure, dynamics of changes in light conditions) can be reflected in well-being.
For healthy sleep and well-being, experts from the Lighting Research Center (LRC) recommend getting as much natural light as possible (morning light is thought to have the greatest health benefits). If your workspace does not have windows, they suggest using additional light sources such as desk lamps or floor lamps. In the evening, you can create the illusion of a sunset. Also, during darkness, it is recommended to use dim lighting of warm colors and to refuse to use gadgets an hour or two before bedtime.

The design of private objects is based on the search for an optimal solution that considers the client’s preferences and complies with regulations. The current challenge for lighting designers is to maintain a balance between the functional tasks of lighting for human comfort and compliance with the laws of nature.
